Empowering Communities Through Purpose-Driven Programs

Unitas of Jamaica delivers integrated agricultural, vocational, educational, diaconal, health and wellness, and community-based income-generating programs that empower individuals, strengthen families, and promote sustainable livelihoods, social care, and long-term community resilience across Jamaica.

Unitas of Jamaica Agricultural Program

Building Food Security and Climate Resilience Together

The Unitas of Jamaica Agricultural Program is a purpose-driven partnership uniting Unitas, the Moravian Church in Jamaica, and a network of faith-based community groups to strengthen food security, restore livelihoods, and empower local communities.

In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, this mission has taken on even greater urgency. Communities are not only rebuilding—they are reimagining how to grow, sustain, and thrive in an increasingly unpredictable climate.

At its core, the program delivers practical, scalable solutions to Jamaica’s climate challenges through two cornerstone initiatives: water harvesting and greenhouse farming. By installing rainwater collection systems and developing model greenhouses across key parishes, we enable farmers, congregations, and youth groups to achieve reliable, year-round crop production—despite droughts, floods, and shifting weather patterns.

But this is more than agriculture. It is about resilience, self-sufficiency, and opportunity—creating pathways for communities to feed themselves, generate income, and build a sustainable future.

Agriculture & Agri-Business

  • Climate-smart greenhouse farming.
  • Rainwater harvesting & irrigation systems.
  • Organic & sustainable crop production.
  • Post-harvest processing & value creation.
  • Farm management, entrepreneurship & marketing access.

Together, we are cultivating more than crops—we are cultivating resilient communities and lasting impact.

The Initiatives:

  1. Education Support & Scholarship Program

Focused on access and continuity, this initiative helps students—particularly at the primary-to-high school transition—remain on track academically despite financial and social challenges.

  • Scholarships & Grants – covering school fees, uniforms, and books,
  • Mentorship & Counseling – supporting emotional recovery, confidence, and personal development
  • After-School Learning Support – strengthening literacy, numeracy, and core academic skills
  1. Bridging the Digital Divide Initiative

Focused on access to technology and connectivity, this initiative ensures students are not excluded from modern learning due to lack of digital resources.

  • School & Community Digital Hubs – safe learning spaces with internet access at partner schools and churches.
  • Devices & Connectivity – expanding access to computers, laptops and online learning tools.
  • Volunteer-Led Academic Support – tutoring and guided learning in a connected environment.

Together, these initiatives address both immediate educational needs and long-term opportunity gaps—helping students recover, stay engaged, and build the skills needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving world.

Advancing Education & Expanding Opportunity in Jamaica

The Unitas of Jamaica Education Program is dedicated to nurturing the potential of Jamaica’s youth through quality education and is built on a simple principle: every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed—regardless of financial hardship or circumstance. In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, that commitment has become even more urgent, as many families face setbacks that directly impact children’s ability to stay engaged in school.

To respond effectively, Unitas—working alongside Moravian schools and other local schools in Jamaica and community partners—delivers two distinct but complementary initiatives: educational support & scholarship program and bridging the digital divide program.

Unitas of Jamaica Vocational Program

Building Skills. Creating Opportunity. Transforming Lives.

At Unitas of Jamaica, we equip individuals with practical, marketable skills that lead to employment, entrepreneurship, and long-term resilience. While the need has intensified in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, our focus extends beyond recovery—toward sustainable opportunity and economic empowerment.

Rooted in our faith-based mission and delivered through a network of 36 churches and 23 partner schools, our Vocational Training Program provides accessible, affordable, and industry-aligned training across Jamaica’s south and western parishes.

Compassion in Action: Caring for Body, Mind, and Spirit

At Unitas of Jamaica, our Diaconal and Health Ministries deliver holistic care to the most vulnerable—strengthening families and supporting community well-being every day. Rooted in Christian compassion, we serve people where they are: in homes, churches, clinics, shelters, and schools.

In times of crisis—such as the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa—and in everyday life, our mission remains the same: to provide consistent, dignified care that restores hope and stability.

We believe true well-being goes beyond physical recovery. It includes emotional strength, spiritual support, and social connection. Through this integrated approach, we ensure that no individual or family is overlooked—before, during, or after times of need.

Core Areas of Service
