Empowering Communities Through Purpose-Driven Programs

Unitas of Jamaica delivers integrated agricultural, vocational, educational, diaconal, health and wellness, and community-based income-generating programs that empower individuals, strengthen families, and promote sustainable livelihoods, social care, and long-term community resilience across Jamaica.

Unitas of Jamaica Agricultural Program

Building Food Security and Climate Resilience Together

The Unitas of Jamaica Agricultural Program is a faith-driven partnership bringing together Unitas, the Moravian Church in Jamaica, and other church-based community groups to strengthen food security and rebuild livelihoods after Hurricane Melissa.

The program began with two cornerstone initiatives — water harvesting and greenhouse farming — as practical responses to Jamaica’s growing climate challenges. By installing rainwater collection systems and developing model greenhouses in key parishes, we help local farmers, congregations, and youth groups maintain consistent crop production during both drought and rainy seasons.

The program provides:

  • Scholarships and Grants for school fees, uniforms, books, and transportation.
  • Counselling and Mentorship to support emotional recovery and confidence building among students.
  • After-School Learning Clubs that strengthen literacy, numeracy, and life skills.
  • Community Study Hubs with internet access and volunteer tutors at participating churches.

The Unitas of Jamaica Education Program is dedicated to nurturing the potential of Jamaica’s youth through access to quality education, mentorship, and spiritual guidance. Rooted in our mission of “Faith in Action and Service,” this initiative ensures that no child is left behind due to financial hardship or disaster-related disruption.

In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, many families faced economic and emotional setbacks that affected their children’s schooling. Unitas, in partnership with the Moravian Church in Jamaicalocal schools, and community organizations, has launched an Education Support and Scholarship Program focused on helping primary school students transition successfully into high school.

Through this holistic approach, Unitas of Jamaica is not only helping students achieve academic success but also fostering resilience, faith, and leadership for the next generation
